The MVP for tonight’s meal is shioyaki saba.
Ramen soup tasted a little like instant noodles soup base.
The beef katsu was 2/5, beef too tough, was overdone, so hard to chew, and the breading wasn’t intact, but the breading on top still crispy. Oh, not to mentioned the beef not so fresh? As it has a strong fridge smell to it.
But there’s manga to read + point to tonight’s meal.

2 friends recommended this eatery so took my mum and her friend. We didn't order much and will be back to try other interesting looking dishes. What ordered was tasty except the bittergourd fried with tauhu. Guess we are too used to the Chinese version where the bittergourd is salted and blanched to reduce the bitterness. Taste is more "natural" bittergourd.

Very fresh and high quality Japanese food here. Love the sashimi, squid and potato salad. There’s a wide variety of food in the menu, the potato with cream and roe we tried was really unique. The ambience is cozy, traditional Japanese style and there’s even a rack of Japanese manga.

I’ve eaten a number of Japanese restaurants across Penang and Aji Noren is at the top of my list (especially if you’re staying along the Batu Ferringgi stretch of hotels which is about a short 15 min drive away).

The vibe is full of character and richly decorated (including two terrapins that have been really eating their greens).

The food however is simply amazing. Not only are the prices value for money but the freshness and deliciousness are really outstanding. I had the simply named “Ham Katsu Cheese Yaki” and this melted blue-cheese panko flaked fried wonder was just out of the world. I failed to take any photos of the dish because I was just too busy finishing it up. The wagyu chahan was sinfully tasty too!

The staff were amazingly friendly and attentive and made the experience even more enjoyable.

My 1st time dining here & from now onwards, it'll definitely be my frequent dinner spot. Loved the Japanese vibe of the shop. They're fully occupied on a weekday night, which is surprising. Menu is full of choices. Tried ramen & fried rice for a start. The crabmeat fried rice is the best fried rice I've eaten in my whole life. Frankly speaking, no exaggerating. Don't be deceived by the dull presentation. The spicy miso ramen is also very flavourful. Their flavour points right on my tastebud. Intense & delicious. Loved both food i ordered. Will surely be back to try other food on their menu. The price point is also reasonable & the portion is just nice. They might be quite busy, but service is still attentive.

Nice environment with Japanese setup and decoration. Even though the space is narrow, but very good feeling for dinning. The price is average with the portion served. We tried 1 ramen and 1 don ~ the taste is very good, nice food. Definitely we will come back to try other foods.

I’ve not been back to this place for at least 12 years as it’s usually fully booked … so I felt I was kinda lucky to get a place during my trip back to Penang.

The food is really good, and we loved every bite. The price is really affordable too despite the popularity of the place. We ordered so much that we didn’t have time to take photos of all the food we ordered 😀
