I found the staff to not be very helpful nor warm. Was hard to get a smile from them, when they were here at all. As there was often nobody, and they could take a lot of time to answer on Booking as well, it was a bit tricky to get answers in case of need, although it didn't stop me from enjoying my stay at all. Also a few more information during the very brief introduction would have been welcomed. This would have typically avoided me to open the leaking tap on the 1st floor and splash all my clothes, or to discover too late in the shared bathroom than the soap and shampoo tanks were empty and probably had been for ages. About this, I can't blame the attitude of other residents to the hotel, but as I left my own soap in the bathroom, I didn't expect others to use it. Also i left my shoes in the main entrance as you're supposed to be, and fin them covered by oil Again this is probably to blame on other residents rather than the hotel but it didn't help me feel welcomed. Anyway it was the last time I left my shoes in the common area.
One other flaw is the hotel is very noisy (thin walls and noisy wooden flor on the 1st floor). As my bedroom which yet was a bit more expensive was siding the dormitory, it was hard to get proper sleep until the last of them went to bed.

Overall the atmosphere was a bit gloomy and cold for sure.

On the bright side, the location is absolutely amazing, sitting in the old town and close to the canal. The confort in the room outside of the noise issue was standard.

Great host. Good rooms. Little bit hot but bareable. Great central location. I would message on WhatsApp and book through there for best rate.

Overall, a good place to stay in a great location in Melaka, just off of Jonkers Street. Room and shared facilities were clean and Jo is a good host too, providing quite a few recommendations of places to eat and things to see.

A couple things hold it back though. The property has a strong musty smell, we managed to get it out of the room after leaving the AC on overnight but it was still very present in the shared spaces. Also, the property is a stone’s throw away from a mosque which has a very loud and tinny call to prayer. This is likely fine for people used to it but as Westerners (and light sleepers) it woke us up every morning at around 6am.

Malheureusement je ne recommande pas. Bien que le propriétaire soit souriant, le dortoir n'est pas propre. Pour un nouveau séjour à Malacca, je suis venue dans cet hôtel car j'avais été déçue de l'hôtel du premier séjour. Nous nous étions réveillées avec des démangeaisons et des boutons sur les jambes et cuisses.. J'ai dû changer de lit dans la nuit. J'ai averti le propriétaire qu'il devait y avoir des puces, il n'a pas changé les draps pour autant. Et il m'a répondu que les puces n'étaient dans le lit mais sur les murs...
Je suis donc venue dans cet hôtel, pas de chance c'est le même propriétaire, comme j'ai ecrit un commentaire négatif sur Google avec des photos pour preuve, il n'a pas voulu prendre ma réservation dans aucun de ses hôtels. Ceci dit cela m'arrange car je ne voulais avoir à relaver tout mes vêtements pour les puces.
Les propriétaires ne sont pas impliqués et semblent oublier qu'il s'agit d'une entreprise de services à la personne.

Parfait. Tout est très confortable et très propre. Les chambres ont tout ce qu'il faut et la clim fonctionne bien.
Les toilettes et douches sont nickels.
L'emplacement est vraiment idéal et on est à 3min de tout dans la vieille ville.
Il y a du thé et du café a disposition toute la journée.

it's a budget hostel in the walkable tourist part of malacca, so just getting a private room at their rates is lucky. room for improvement: owner smokes downstairs, but swears up and down it's nonsmoking. hi, we can smell it all day. consequently, some guests think it's ok to do same. i was upstairs in the queen bedroom and was able to sufficiently ventilate most of the time, but wouldn't stay again for this reason alone. no windows; the windows shown just look onto the interior of the house, 2 shared toilets, and there's a trick to flushing one, so most guests don't flush. it's gross, get it repaired. generally grimy showers, no hand soap, ancient pillows and mattresses. sheets and towels are washed, but not with enough soap, and line dried not machine dried, which is not hygienic. zero soundproofing, people complained to me for being on the phone at night even though i was in a private room and they were in bunkbeds next door.

Brilliant stay. The location is perfect, a minutes or two walk from Jonker Street and the same to get onto the riverside.||We opted for a private room, clean and comfortable with hot shower. The breakfast is very good, toast with jam and peanut butter options, tea, coffee and banana bread, ideal to start you off for the day.||Jo who runs the place is a lovely guy, he speaks excellent English and is knowledgeable about the city, where to visit, eat etc. Great sense of humour and claims he can stop the rain just by singing ...

I stayed in the 4 bed dormitory for 3 nights and I really enjoyed everything about this place.
Extremely clean bathrooms and common areas.
Jo is the best Host and will help you with anything you need and suggest what to visit and what food to try.
You can’t go wrong if you go to Melaka… this is the place to stay.
