We spend 2 nights there, as we were flying away from a Chinese managed guesthouse nearby.||Make sure you Ismail is there and he will welcome you very well.||Sleeping with the sound of the sea which is litteraly at 5M from the bed is a great luxury for a room at 100 MYR. Room was clean and spacious, guesthouse is at a convenient location in Batu Ferringhi (only 10min bus from Penang National Park), and Ismail is always ready to give you good piece of advice about Malaysia and Penang customs.||Thanks again Ismail and keep up the good job.

Even as a New Zealander on above average incomes, Batu Ferrigngi provided us with a dilemma. There is simply no ‘mid-price’ accommodation to be had. Not on the beach anyway. Perhaps if you want to hire a condo or something back from the beach you might get lucky but all the major resorts charge upwards from 650rm per night for a standard family (2 kids, 2 adults) room, which was way over our budget.||||We settled on Ismail, a basic block (you really can’t call them chalets) toward the far end of the beach near Park Royal. Run by a nice lady Joyce from Philippines, we were quoted 140rm for 4 nights.||||The room was basic in the extreme. Having only just arrived in the country we took the lumpy beds in our stride but having since enjoyed better accommodation for less money, I feel that more should have been done to improve the resort & justify the cost. Beds pulled away from walls revealed dirt and neglect below so cleaning done was of a bare minimum. We were told it would be quiet during the week but on Thursday guests and staff were up ALL NIGHT chatting, driving motorbikes and generally hanging out outside. Joyce was apologetic and kind and I appreciate couldn’t do much about it… perhaps the resort is better suited to Malaysians or Arabs or those that are happy to stay up all night & sleep all day. ||||When we arrived we booked the first 2 nights and were issued with a receipt. However later Joyce insisted we hadn’t paid for these nights. We were sure we would have but couldn’t remember so ended up paying (possibly twice). Giving someone a receipt if they haven’t paid is a bit of a confusing practice all round. Then when I paid for the last 2 nights I wasn’t given a receipt at all.||||The room had aircon and a hot shower, bathroom basic but okay. This website http://www.letsbookhotel.com/en/malaysia/batu-feringgi/hotel/ismail-beach-guest-house.aspx says a kettle is provided but we didn't have one. There were lots of kittens and puppies loitering from neighbouring properties which was nice for our kids, though the animals did use the sand courtyard as their toilet so had to be careful about playing in there.||||Though the location was great, I feel the accommodation itself could be vastly improved by some good cleaning, better cash handling system and noise control.

Stayed in one of their rooms, coded as B1 recently and was actually pleasantly surprised with the interior. It has the best view facing the sea and literally just 10-20 meters away from the sea. Water heater is only provided upon request.

We've stayed at ismail beach guest house around june 22th 2012 for one night. We've been traveling in south east asia for around 100 days and its was by far the worst place ever. We couldn't beleive this place was even mentioned in the lonely planet travel guide ! Here's a list of the + and - .||+++ advantages ||beach side ||||||- - - disadvantages||- noisy air con||- busted materas||- bad pillows||- she will ask you to pay the room in advance with no refund possible||- hot shower not in fonction||- visit from a few cockroachs in the room||- way overpriced like 40$ us||- old furniture||- smelly||||||To be honest with you Readers we sleeped only 2 hours during this night witch totally ruined the following day. That is how bad the room was. Do yourself a favour STAY AWAY !!! ||||
