Faloe Hostel - Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

I stayed at Faloe for eight consecutive nights while exploring Kota Kinabalu and doing day trips to the many activities in the region. Of the 12 hostels I stayed at during my 80 days in east and west Malaysia, I think this was my favourite because I found it peaceful, quiet, clean, comfortable, cosy, the staff kind and understanding, the amenities well chosen and maintained, its location in an upmarket area very clean and safe, and the kitchenette (right next to the reception desk) convenient to cook small meals in the microwave and on an induction stove.
The bunk bed mattress and pillow was super comfy. Linen topnotch. The enclosed balcony was perfect to air dry small clothing items I handwashed.
The shower/toilet combo was one of several outside the various rooms. Never a need to wait. Always clean.
A washer and drier is available for just MR6 each per load. Although directly below the incoming flight path for KK International Airport, the building is well sound insulated, and the aircraft flying less than 100m above never disturbed my sleep.
Staff Lia and Sya were amazing. Super friendly, great sense of humour, always smiling.
I will definitely stay at Faloe again when I return to KK.

Super nice and calm hostel! Very comfortable beds and spacious clean rooms. Social and cozy but not a party hostel so I personally loved it. Seperate female dorm was a plus as well. The family running this hostel is the kindest and they have a really sweet fun little daughter. Best hostel I stayed in in Malaysia 🙂

One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. The space is clean, the air conditioning in the rooms works great, and the employees are all so nice. They have lots of recommendations for things to do and eat nearby, and you can book tours super easily through them as well. You can do laundry there for a very reasonable price and they are flexible with late check-ins and early check-outs.

The bad stuff first: the hostel is under the flight path and there are steps to the lifts, so it's not for the mobility-challenged or light sleepers. We're not either of these and enjoyed our stay. Helpful staff like Leia did their best during a lengthy water disruption, found the nearest toilets and hotels with running water, bought us bottled water and were prepared to refund us. The rooms were comfortable with universal power sockets and USB ports, the shared toilet/showers were clean. There's a filtered water tap and no-shoes-indoors policy.

Had a wonderful stay here. If you arrive late after checkin make sure you get in touch with them first and they will send you late arrivals details which are super easy to follow.

The room I had - not dorm - was immaculate and spacious. As good as any hotel room. The shared bathrooms are all
Mini bathrooms so you have all the privacy you need and they are kept so clean.

There is a small shared kitchen and whilst I was there the travellers there were really enjoying cooking together and listening to music.

Fantastic hostel that makes you feel at home instantly. All the staff is super nice and the hostel is very clean and maintained with lots of care and love. There is a small, well-equipped kitchen area including a fridge. You can also do your laundry directly in the hostel. The living room area makes it easy to meet fellow travelers if you wish and I extremely enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. I stayed at Faloe Hostel several times between my trips around Borneo and can 100% recommend it.

Geweldig hostel!! ben hier 2 nachten gebleven na het bezoeken van Mt Kinabalu/Kinabalu park. De eigenaressen zijn ontzettend aardig en behulpzaam; voor aankomst werd even gevraagd hoe laat ik ongeveer zou arriveren, en ik kreeg gelijk ff doorgeappt waar het hostel zat en hoe ik er kon komen (zit namelijk op de 3e verdieping).
De locatie vond ik super; op loopafstand van de oceanfront en ook op redelijke afstand van de (boot)jetty. Een Grab binnen de stad en naar het vliegveld kost geen zak, je kunt overal ontzettend makkelijk komen. Er zit een grote shoppingmall met een westers-achtige supermarkt vlakbij (Everrise), en ook 2 miniwinkeltjes (7 Eleven en Orange) naast en tegenover het hostel. Vanuit het hotel kun je geregelde activiteiten doen zoals het bezoeken van de eilanden ten noorden van KK, of het beklimmen van Mt Kinabalu. Het hostel zelf vond ik ook erg fijn; er is een gemeenschappelijke keuken (gratis koffie + thee en een koelkast), schone wc's en douches (met heet water), een wasmachines en droger die je voor €1,20 kon gebruiken. Verder hadden ze spelletjes en een TV met Netflix. Slaapruimtes waren top, hygiënisch en netjes, grote locker voor al je bagage, airco aanwezig en 's nachts werd het licht gedimd. Doodzonde dat dit hostel nog niet in de Lonely Planet staat. 11/10, ga hier in de toekomst zeker opnieuw heen 🙏

It's a great place to stay, shared bunk beds, with personal spacious locker, cloth hanger, reading lamp, and quiet. Common shoe rack outside, but you could store higher value shoes in your locker for safety.

There are 2 pillows for extra comfort which is a bonus point!

Bathrooms with good ventilation and clean. Love the minimalist living room design and coffee tables near reception.
