Guesthouses have common dining room and sitting room with kitchen. Can get free coffee/tea there with fresh delicious 🍞 bread. Fridge can be used to store own stuff with labels 🏷 to ID it. Rooms are digital coded to lock...no need for keys. Even the front entrance uses digital code to get inside. Easy to find...located 2 doors from the Ghost Museum.

- Location was great close to almost everything and surrounded with great restaurants.
- The Host was friendly, responsive and very cooperative. They also offered us an early check in.
- The room was spacious, very clean and tidy.
- AC works fine
- The toilet and shower was spacious and very clean.
- Towels are new and clean as well
- The shared area is well equipped: cold water dispenser, fridge, basic kitchen tools.. and delicious bread
- The design and the concept of the guesthouse was nice and creative, an old Chinese house with a modern touch
- Our room was in the first floor with no elevator but the staff helped us carrying our luggage.

Nice ambience of old shop house. Stay 3 night. Very convenient, walk most of the time, go and visit near by Ghost House attractions.

We really enjoyed our stay here!

The location is in the historic part of Georgetown with the most interesting old buildings (imho) and lots of great places to eat or drink nearby. The building itself is very aesthetic with a historic vibe and high ceilings.

The hosts were very responsive and provided bread, cookies, coffee, and tea which was amazing considering the cost!

It was very clean, no issues there.

There is a shared washing machine, and shared kitchen with a water cooler, kettle, water cooler, microwave, toaster, basic crockery and cutlery.

Bathrooms are also shared but that wasn’t a problems.

Only minor thing to note was the walls are thin so you will be able to hear other guests in other rooms or going up/down the stairs. However this didn’t bother us, especially considering the cheap price and other benefits! The hosts provided ear plugs

Overall would definitely recommend would stay again if we are back in George Town.

在喬治城市中心，離光大巴士站很近(所有主要公車都有停)，這一區走路都很快可到達，走累了還可回房間的地方休息一下，超方便，附近有很多必比登美食，業主一直都熱心協助幫忙，老房子很有設計感，電子門鎖進出，來檳城首推平價住宿之選。
旅店位置的巷弄安靜，惟老房子是木板隔間及木頭樓梯，難免聲音會穿透，業者會給耳塞，及共用衛浴。

It was an absolute pleasure to stay here. Housed in a beautifully restored heritage building, this guesthouse seamlessly blends historic charm with modern comfort. The rooms were impeccably clean and exuded comfort, with plush beds ensuring a restful night's sleep. The common areas were equally impressive, with stylish decor and well-appointed kitchen and bathrooms. Despite being open for only two weeks, the owner were incredibly helpful and informative, offering valuable tips for exploring the area. Located in the heart of George Town, the guesthouse is conveniently situated within walking distance of numerous restaurants, cafes, and attractions. Overall, my experience at Aayu Melayu was wonderful, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable stay in Penang.

We were a team of 13 architects and interior designers staying at Aayu Melayu over 3 nights and really enjoyed ourselves. Some notes:

1. The fitout of the conserved shophouse is tastefully spartan, just slighting teetering austere with its brickwalls stripped of plaster and paint on the lower floor and most of the other surfaces in the house painted in muted whites and cool greys, and in their choice of inexpensive yet decent looking furniture.

2. There's no mistaking that the place is put together on a budget, but there's also a lot to be said about Shane and his wife's taste and affinity for design; given a larger budget, and more time and experience, we're sure their other homes can be luxury escapes.

3. That said, Shane is some sort of host extraordinaire. He's responsive, unfailingly polite, and hospitable. (The duo, I believe, are truly meant for this line of work.) He had a loaf of bread, a list of recommendations for sight-seeing, arranged for his staff Desmond (also super pleasant and warm) to greet us and show us around, assured us that they can do daily housekeeping (if you request). I have met some really good hosts, but Shane easily comes up on top in terms of being so personable.

4. As we travelled as a whole team taking up the whole house, we wished the living 1st airwell had better utility so that the whole team could gather for meals. (We temporarily and gently moved the dining table and chairs out into the living area as a quick fix.) And although there were a few bowls and cups (say 4 and 6 respectively), it wasn't quite enough receptacles to accommodate all 13pax. We went to the nearby store and bought additional bowls to add to the house (matching their existing wares), and a set of disposables to tide over.

For what we paid for: 5/5.

Had an amazing stay at this charming place located on Lebuh Melayu!
The house has so much character and is perfectly situated in the heart of Penang’s heritage area.
It’s just a short walk to iconic landmarks, delicious local food, and vibrant street art. The host was warm and welcoming, making my stay even more enjoyable. A fantastic place to experience the authentic culture and history of Penang! 🙂
