Check-in is supposed to be available from 2:00 PM. I arrived at the property around 3:15 PM, but there was no staff on-site to greet or assist me. I called the number provided in my booking confirmation, and the host answered. He told me he was out having a meal and would need about an hour to return to the hostel.

He then asked for my name, and after a while, he said there was no reservation under it in their system. I was taken aback, but ended the call and sent him screenshots showing my confirmed booking status, reservation number, and payment proof from the booking platform. However, I got the same answer. Then, without any attempt or effort, he said that he could not accept me because he had not received the booking.

I found this response incredibly irresponsible, but I decided to wait until he returned, as I had no immediate alternative and was already exhausted from the heat and humidity in Melaka, carrying a heavy backpack all the way to the hostel. Waiting for over an hour under those conditions, due to an issue that clearly wasn’t my fault, was extremely frustrating.

As the host had said, he and his staffs returned a little over an hour later. They greeted me with reluctant and unwelcoming expressions. After some back-and-forth conversation, they finally checked the booking platform through their PC and found my name on the reservation list. It turned out the problem was caused by the host’s carelessness—he had relied only on email notifications instead of checking the actual system.

But what happened next was even more disappointing. After realizing the mistake, the host looked slightly embarrassed but didn’t offer a single word of apology. He simply instructed a staff member to check me in.

I was furious, but with no other place to go, I held it in. I forced a sarcastic smile, paid the remaining balance, and received a brief explanation of the facilities from the staff. I stayed for two nights as originally booked, but every time I ran into the host during my stay, he ignored me completely—as if I didn’t exist. It was my first time experiencing this kind of cold and humiliating behavior. I now fully understand what another reviewer meant by “selective hospitality.” I still wonder what I did wrong to be treated as one of the “unselected.”

As for the hostel itself—setting aside my personal experience—the atmosphere was decent, with a laid-back, hippie vibe. The location was also fairly good. However, the shower facilities were extremely poor, and overall cleanliness was lacking. The mixed dorm air conditioner barely produced cool air; it was more lukewarm than refreshing. I returned around 4 PM to rest, and the bed right under the AC was so warm that I started sweating the moment I lay down. The bed also creaked loudly and felt uncomfortable.

マラッカ来るのが突発の決定やったので飛び込みで行きました
おっちゃんの詰め所のシングルルームがなんとか空いてて泊まらせてもらえました
エアコン無いけど換気扇と扇風機あるしフロントの扇風機一個持ってっていいよ言われたのでエアコン無しでも涼しく快適に安眠出来ました

ぼろぼろやけど宿の自転車無料で借りれるのも嬉しい
陽気でおしゃべりな宿のおっちゃんええ人やし宿のユーザーもみんな陽気なバックパッカーて感じで客層いい
日本人の利用者もたまに来るそう
猫もかわいい
最高!
飯は近所にマラッカ現地料理の店あったけどパキスタン料理屋が良かったです

Yesterday 12/9/25 I came to Malacca & stayed in three little birds for dorm I payed 30 myr . this hostel is very clean well maintained they provide tea coffee hot,cold water , umbrella,bathroom slipper& bycycle to go out owner and his assistant both are very friendly ready to help if someone come to Malacca you spend atleast one night over here I tour a lot in india in nepal and in kualalumpur I feel this place is very good for all this is self service hostel . やや外れた場所にあるものの、その分周辺の飲食店は安いし、無料で自転車が使えるので問題ないです。
スタッフ・オーナー共にとても親切で愛想が良く、色々と柔軟に対応してくれます(しかも美人揃い)。古き良きユースホステルに来たなー、という感じです。
ただドミトリーは空調の効きが悪くベッドも軋むので、眠るのは快適とは言えなかったです。

So glad I ended up staying here. The place is like home, Sharom is an amazing host. The location is perfect, you have amazing street food corner right opposite, and the old town is right there, as well as the riverside - all in walking distance. Free bicycles for use. The house is so clean and cozy. So nice to have full equipped kitchen and free tea/coffee and oats for morning! Thank you Sharom for everything, and thanks for the sweet volunteers aswell! ❤️ will highly recommend forward!

I wouldn't Stay there anymore!

They still announce to have " mixed dormatories" on for example: Booking.com. But they don't have it anymore. The male dormatory is now in the first floor, female room is downstairs, and there is NO toilet in the 1 floor. If you need a toilet, I had to walk down the stairs with sleepy eyes. And in the 1 floor are no bunk beds anymore, ( only 1). The other Beds are " free standing", so I could not hang my blanked there as a curtain as a bit privacy. I couldn't sleep well.
And another reason I wouldn't stay there anymore is:
After, I had the first time in my life a small problem with 2 Lithuanian female guest's in the hostel there, who didn't want me to "check in " the Hostel the next day for my last night in Melaka, after I had had a good talk with them about God the evening before. Since I knew nothing about their decision, they threatened me with " call the police" in the garden of the hostel when I walked there to check in ,, If I would not leave immediately". I was shocked to get treated as a criminal suddenly from 2 paranoid women!! (Actually I hadn't read my messages this day on my phone where the hostel owner had told me, I should not check in today). So, I knew nothing about the whole thing and I was perplexed and shocked.

Of course where I'm not welcome, I don't stay.

Of course afterwards I got angry about the ridiculous evilness and rudeness of this 2 women. I send the Hostel Owner Joni a message for them to deliver it to them, since I didn't have their number.

And than the bad thing happened: the hostel owner Joni NEVER replied to me anymore, said nothing to me anymore! Of course I didn't like that from the owner, since that unjustified threat against me, happened in the garden of the owners hostel, and I was many times a customer there in the past also. He could had at least respond to me and deliver my message to the 2 Litauen women there. But he didn't. So, My friends and I don't like the attitudes of the owner about me " (being also a customer) of this hostel, we don't recommend the hostel and don't stay there anymore!!

GAS LEAK IN FEMALE DORM||If you arrive and smell chemicals from the air conditioning that smell like hair perming solution then please leave the dorm immediately - this is a gas leak and is incredibly harmful. The owner does not care for your safety and will continue to let people stay in the room||This is very serious ||I woke up after first night with the worst headache I have ever experienced in my life as well as a cough. But things could have been much worse
